Yesterday, Obama became the 44th president of the United States. He had an inauguration ceremony which made him fully the president. Obama had one of the biggest crowds of people watching him live in American history. He also became a new African American role model for many young students who look up to him rather than the old African American role models like famous rappers or athletes. He has done way more than many presidents has ever done in his first day in office and will become the greatest president the United States will ever have!

Obama visiting to Canada has shown us the importance Canada has as an economic partner. Obama’s first foreign visit as president is Ottawa, Canada. The main goal of this visit is to revive the North American economy. Obama also shows how the United States are being prepared to work more effectively and cooperatively to allies around the globe. Harper better get his climate change and economic proposal ready as Obama comes to Canada!

Stephane Dion Resigns

A few days after October 14th, Stephane Dion tells Canadians that he will resign as soon as a new successor for the Liberals is chosen. Today, he formally resigns as the leader of the Liberal party and to issue a written statement so that Michael Ignatieff, a Toronto MP, could become the new leader. Dion tells us how he wants to do the best for his country and his party and in order for that to happen, he had to resign. Although this resignation has been talked about for some time, Dion plays a big part on the coalition government and this might disappear if Ignatieff takes over. Hopefully, Ignatieff will be a good leader for the Liberal party and Dion resigns successfully with the coalition government still happening.

Steven Harper used a subsidy cut which meant that the party won’t receive $1.95 for every seat they have any longer. This angered the NDP, Liberals, and the Bloc Quebecois into forming a coalition government to overthrow the Conservatives. If this does happen it will cause the Conservatives to be overthrown. It will also be the first coalition government since 1917.

Obama Creates Jobs to Save Economic Crisis

Obama plans to create/save 2.5 million jobs by 2011 and help bring the economy back together. He is expected to spend a major amount of money to save the crisis they are currently in. Their plan is up to $700 billion dollars which is a huge amount but Obama states that they can’t wait much longer. Experts say that without quick and accurate decisions, many jobs will be lost and the economy will be even worse than is already is. Microsoft withdraws their attempt to buyout Yahoo, but signs search deal

Microsoft tried buying out Yahoo in May for $47.5 million which was rejected by Yahoo. Instead, Yahoo went for a deal with Google which ended up falling apart. Microsoft states that they are still interested in a search deal with Yahoo. Microsoft also tried buying out their search business, but signed a search advertising deal instead. Microsoft is planning to grow again and went on a hiring spree hiring over 20,000 more employees to their 90,000 they have worldwide already just in 2 years. Because of all these things that happened shares in Yahoo are down 19% and shares in Microsoft are down 3%.

Oil prices has been going down ever since Obama became the president of the United States. But, the International Energy Agency is warning everyone that the prices won’t last for long. The gas prices will skyrocket once the oil producer start the expensive projects again. The site, http://www.thestar.com/business/article/535378, tells us how the low prices of oil will soon come to an end. We better fill up the gas tanks before it skyrockets again!

The link above shows the statistics currently, just before the big day. It also states how this election is going to be the biggest voter turnout ever stating to have about 130 million to 140 million people voting which surpasses the 120 million people voting turn out in the last election. If the predictions are correct, Barack Obama will be the first Democrat to pull out more than 50% of the popular vote over the Republicans since 1976 by Jimmy Carter. No matter what happens, George Bush will NOT be the president and it is the best thing that ever happened to the United States. Hopefully, whoever that wins the election will be a good one and won’t resemble George Bush.
